Beef Fajitas
Tonight's dinner is a classic Tex-Mex dish that is quick and easy to prepare.
On the grill pan, skirt steak marinated overnight in lime juice, olive oil, cumin, oregano, black pepper and worcestershire sauce. Then topped with onions, green & red bell pepper.

Eggplant, Tuna and Pasta Casserole
Eggplant is actually one of my favorite vegetables. I grabbed one from Whole Foods over the weekend with no recipe in mind. All I know was I want to eat eggplant this week.
Then, while driving home this afternoon I thought of making a casserole.
The arsenal: onion, garlic, olive oil, tomatoes, pasta, eggplant, fresh basil from the garden, a pinch of salt and freshly-ground black pepper. Tuna was a last minute addition after I found half a dozen cans in the pantry.
What a hearty meal!

Cod, Leeks & Tomatoes
Dishes have been washed. Laundry is running. The Little Guy is now asleep. Hubby is watching recorded shows.
Tonight's dinner was delicious. Cod in garlic butter sauce with sautéed leeks and grape tomatoes finished with sliced lemon.
Now, off to grab my work laptop which I forgot in the car. I have a report due in the morning. It's going to be a long night.

Chicken Tikka Masala
Oil heated on a skillet, I sautéed the organic chicken in garlic and onion until golden brown. Poured the store-bought Tikka Masala sauce. Simmered for about an hour. Then added the cubed potatoes and diced green pepper and red pepper.

A Little Sizzle, A Little Smoke
It's BBQ time again... woohoo! Husband is typically in-charge of the BBQ.
On the grill -- beef kabob, chicken kabob and pita.
Happy grilling!
Sunday Sweet Sunday
I will say it once, I will say it a hundred times. As cheesy as it may sound, I love these two boys to the moon and back!
At Breakfast
This morning we got up at 5:30 as usual. Attended the 7:00 am Mass then met a friend for a quick breakfast at Patys. The Little Guy and I had pancakes topped with banana, strawberries and blueberries. Hubby had eggs benedict.
Happy Sunday!

Charcuterie Picnic
It was hot outside -- still in the 90s well past 7:30 pm so the plan to spread out a blanket in the garden has turned into an indoor picnic.
Three kinds of cured meat -- Salchichón, Jamón Serrano and Chorizo de Cantimpalos. Three kinds of cheese -- Gouda, Brie and Cheddar. Baguette, strawberries, champagne grapes and bean antipasto.
A wine sipped happily. Thankful for such a beautiful evening.
The Little Guy Meets Peppa Pig
Today we got a chance to meet Peppa Pig at Westfield Topanga Mall. Upon laying eyes on the girl who loves muddy paddles, the Little Guy said, "Epa Pig, Epa Pig." At home he usually raises his legs when we say Peppa Pig.
Yes, we love Peppa and the rest of the crew -- her little brother George, Daddy Pig, Mummy Pig, Grandpa & Granny Pig, Madame Gazele, Peppa's friends -- Suzy Sheep, Rebecca Rabbit, Zoe Zebra, Emily Elephant, Danny Dog, Pedro Pony and Freddie Fox.
Snort, snort! Here are some pictures we snapped...

Ground Beef with Broccolini and Radishes
In a saucepan I drizzled some olive oil. A clove of garlic sliced thinly and yellow onion chopped. Then I added a pound of organic ground beef then seasoned with salt and pepper. Browned, turned the heat down a little before adding a bunch of broccolini and some radishes.

Go, Grow and Glow!
Pasta in boiling water. Organic chicken sizzling on the pan. It has been seasoned with salt, freshly-cracked peppercorn and smoked paprika. A bundle of broccoli rabe has been rinsed in cold water and cut into an inch long pieces. Jarred roasted red bell pepper drained and chopped.
In less than 30 minutes we had a simple supper with all three food groups covered -- pasta for the 'go,' chicken for the 'grow' and broccoli rabe & bell pepper for the 'glow.'

Trout en Papillote
A pinch of salt, a clove of garlic, topped with scallion and sliced lemon, then drizzled with olive oil. I placed the trout on a parchment paper. Folded the sides up tight. Then popped the baking sheet with the trout into the pre-heated oven.
Morning Gardening
Digging is fun. Playing with water is even better :-)
Morning routine with the Little Guy before the day gets hectic.

Chicken Liver in Lemon Soy Sauce
In the kitchen a couple of hours ago. Chicken liver from Whole Foods sizzling in sauteed onion and garlic, soy sauce, lemon and freshly cracked black pepper.
A Walk Around the Block
I couldn't resist to take a snapshot of the Little Guy and his classmate during our "after school walk around the block."
Summer's Fresh Produce
Strawberries, blueberries, peaches and pineapple on a bed of greens... a repeat lunch from last week. So good and so colorful I decided to make it again.

When Your Neighbor Hands You Lemons...
... make lemonade. In our case, calamansi juice.
Every Sunday morning all Summer long we are delighted to open our door to a bag of calamansi from our sweet neighbor.
Brunch at CiCi's Cafe
Four and a half stars out of 1,100+ reviews, this place must be good.
Three parties were ahead of us when we got there at around nine. The wait was about twenty minutes. Service was great. Our server was really friendly. Menu is huge and a bit overwhelming to peruse especially if you have a toddler in tow. They have every breakfast you can think of... 27 pancakes, 6 waffles, 8 French toast, 8 crepes, benedicts, sandwiches, a touch of sunshine, a little more sunshine, in the farm, make it your way, beyond the farm, the whole nine yards, the good old days, field of greens, cozy corner... they have it all covered.
I had CiCi's Scramble, husband had Three Amigos and the Little Guy had pancake topped with strawberries and blueberries. A double thumbs-up delicious seal for the pancake. I will order pancake next time. Maybe the Green Tea Pancake if I'm in the mood to be more adventurous.

Shopping and Sushi
In Glendale with Grammy today after meeting-up with hubby's friend. First at the Galleria as Grammy was in the mood to shop for the Little Guy. Then to Raffi's Place, my favorite spot for shish kabob, but the wait was about an hour -- so we walked back to the Cuban place we saw on our way to Raffi's, but apparently they're out of business already. And, that's how we ended up at Octopus, a Japanese fusion restaurant. We're not really into rolls. We prefer nigiri and sashimi from traditional sushi joints, but Octopus was the best option at that moment and actually it was surprisingly good and service was great too.
On the table...
- Broiled Mussel
- Albacore Sushi
- Yellowtail Sushi
- Spicy Tuna Tempura Roll
- Tempura California Roll
- Ultimate Albacore Roll
- Rainbow Roll

Bastille Day
Thought of doing a photo travel flashback today,
July 14th, Bastille Day. Bastille Day is a festive French national holiday to
commemorate the start of French Revolution.

In Search of a Great Brunch
Picture this -- right
after Mass, a quarter past eight, we drove to Los Feliz, saw a line at Los
Feliz Café, thought about stopping by, but decided to keep on driving, then on
to the hip and trendy Hillhurst, nothing new jumped out at us, so we continued rolling
to Central LA. Read some great reviews
about Square One Dining, so we stopped by, but parking was horrible, so we
continued on to the gas station. While
there, husband made a reservation at Cecconi in West Hollywood thru Open
Table. Now we have a destination. Sounds great, right? Not so fast, haha! Drove another 30 minutes. When we got to Cecconi, we realized we’re way underdressed for the place with
our Deutschland jerseys… it’s World Cup Finals by the way. Hmmm… now where
to? We’ve been driving for more than an
hour now. We could have been to Santa Barbara if we headed North. Back to Los Feliz? Indeed, we drove back to Los Feliz Café, parked
the car, unbuckled the Little Guy and walked to the restaurant. Right when we were at the doorstep, husband turned
around and said, “let’s go somewhere else.”
Huh, are you kidding me? So back to the car, and off we drove for another
30 minutes or so. And, guess where we
ended up, Spark Woodfire Grill in Studio City which is 20 minutes away from
where we started.
For the drinks, Blood Orange Mimosa for the hubby, Dark Chocolate Truffle French Press for me. Then, I had Oyster Mushroom & Asparagus Scramble with extra chicken apple sausage on toasted ciabatta with white truffle oil, Bellwether Farms fromage blanc and breakfast potatoes. Husband
had Braised Sort Ribs and Eggs with grilled polenta, poached eggs, chipotle bearnaise and breakfast potatoes.
Yum!
