In Search of a Great Brunch

Picture this --  right after Mass, a quarter past eight, we drove to Los Feliz, saw a line at Los Feliz Café, thought about stopping by, but decided to keep on driving, then on to the hip and trendy Hillhurst, nothing new jumped out at us, so we continued rolling to Central LA.  Read some great reviews about Square One Dining, so we stopped by, but parking was horrible, so we continued on to the gas station.  While there, husband made a reservation at Cecconi in West Hollywood thru Open Table.  Now we have a destination.  Sounds great, right?  Not so fast, haha! Drove another 30 minutes.  When we got to Cecconi, we realized we’re way underdressed for the place with our Deutschland jerseys… it’s World Cup Finals by the way. Hmmm… now where to?  We’ve been driving for more than an hour now. We could have been to Santa Barbara if we headed North.  Back to Los Feliz? Indeed, we drove back to Los Feliz Café, parked the car, unbuckled the Little Guy and walked to the restaurant.  Right when we were at the doorstep, husband turned around and said, “let’s go somewhere else.”  Huh, are you kidding me? So back to the car, and off we drove for another 30 minutes or so.  And, guess where we ended up, Spark Woodfire Grill in Studio City which is 20 minutes away from where we started.

For the drinks, Blood Orange Mimosa for the hubby, Dark Chocolate Truffle French Press for me.  Then, I had Oyster Mushroom & Asparagus Scramble with extra chicken apple sausage on toasted ciabatta with white truffle oil, Bellwether Farms fromage blanc and breakfast potatoes.  Husband had Braised Sort Ribs and Eggs with grilled polenta, poached eggs, chipotle bearnaise and breakfast potatoes.

Yum!
